The Parti Cinta Sabah president said the constituency has great potential, as the Sabah oil and gas terminal in Kimanis, established during his time as an MP, has become a leading force in the national energy industry.
Anifah said the good relations he built during his time as foreign minister will serve well in helping draw foreign investments to Bongawan.
“This is no mere political proposal. This is achievable based on my experience and Bongawan’s potential,” he said in a statement today.
Anifah expressed confidence that Bongawan would see rapid economic development as an oil and gas hub, as well as increased job opportunities, particularly in the industry’s technical and support services sector.
He said it would also see rapid infrastructure modernisation in terms of its roads, water and electricity supply, logistics and telecommunications, all in support of industrial activities.
Anifah visualised Bongawan as a new strategic zone, like Bintulu in Sarawak or Kemaman in Terengganu.
“Bongawan can become the centre of Sabah’s energy industry and famous nationwide,” he said.
Anifah called on voters to allow him to complete the constituency’s previously unrealised development goals.
“I want to redeem what has been left undone so Bongawan’s voters get the development they deserve,” he said.
In the Sabah election, Anifah is challenging Bongawan incumbent Daud Yusof of Warisan, as well as Mohamad Alamin (Barisan Nasional), Dolores Michael (STAR), Ridzuan Firdaus (Perikatan Nasional), Royston Adven (Parti Impian Sabah), Peter Matinjal (KDM), Hussin Dasar @ Esah (PPRS) and independent Haris Tahir.
