Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the project is in the final phase of testing and commissioning to ensure reliability and safety, Bernama reported.
The launch date is subject to the results of the tests to ensure there are no technical glitches when it finally opens, Loke said when winding up his ministry’s committee-level debate on the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd had hired 956 workers, including for its operations, technical, engineering and support teams, to prepare for LRT3’s operations to begin.
On the KLIA Terminal 1 roof leakage incident following heavy rain on Friday, Loke said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd had been instructed to take action against the contractor.
“This is extremely disappointing and embarrassing as it portrays a negative image of the country and it is difficult to forgive,” he said.
Loke also reiterated his ministry’s firm stance in not compromising on action taken against overloaded vehicles.
“Only with decisiveness and strong political will can we combat this menace which has been going on for decades,” he said.
