Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng questioned whether the police were aware of the whereabouts of the deceased, who had a criminal record for several offences.
“If a wanted person can freely move around in the middle of a city, it exposes clear weaknesses in the police’s operations and surveillance.
“It also raises another question: how many other people wanted by the authorities are still freely living like ordinary people across the country?” he said in a statement.
Lim said Malaysians deserved an explanation from Bukit Aman in order to reassure their security. Failing to do so would only reduce their confidence in the police force, he said.
In the incident, which occurred at a petrol station in Bukit Tinggi at about 11pm on Nov 7, a man reportedly fired several shots at a car, fatally striking the victim who was seated inside.
Police later revealed that the victim, aged 34, was wanted under Sosma and that they were taking his background into consideration in their probe into the murder.
Yesterday, it was reported that three suspects, aged between 19 and 35, had been arrested over the shooting and remanded until Nov 17.
