Security guard jailed for public possession of sword, knife

PETALING JAYA:
A security guard was sentenced to five years in jail and one stroke of the cane by the Kuching sessions court today for the possession of offensive weapons in public.

Bernama reported that judge Noorhisham Jaafar handed down the sentence on Ahmad Noor Abdullah, 39, who pleaded guilty to the charge. He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest.

Ahmad Noor was charged with possessing a Japanese sword and a knife in a car parked in front of a convenience store at Jalan Ban Hock in Kuching, at about 6.45am last Saturday.

The charge was framed under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which provides for five to 10 years’ imprisonment and a whipping, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the weapons were found in the car during a police inspection.

The knife was found in the storage compartment between the front seats while the samurai sword was on the rear seat.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Farid while Ahmad Noor was unrepresented.
