Judge Ahmad Fadhli Mahmud sentenced Anuar Yusoff, 48, to serve 10 years’ imprisonment with two strokes of the cane for each count.
The jail sentences are to be served concurrently from today.
“The court also orders the accused to undergo counselling during his imprisonment and to be placed under police supervision for two years after his release,” he said.
Fadhli, in delivering the judgment, said the court found that the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt in the case, and the defence presented was merely a denial.
“The court took into account that the accused was a teacher who should have protected the victim instead of taking advantage of him to satisfy his lust.
“However, the accused betrayed that trust by committing sexual acts on the teen, leaving him traumatised,” he said.
Anuar was charged with three counts of sexually assaulting the 15-year-old boy in a room at a resort on Pulau Perhentian at 3pm on July 29, 2022, and 1am and 5am on July 30, 2022.
The charge was brought under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Akmal Jazlee appeared for the prosecution, while Anuar was represented by lawyer Nik Ismail Nik Lah.
