Couple pleads not guilty to robbing pawnshop of RM5mil in jewellery

They are accused of robbing the shop in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, on Oct 21.

PETALING JAYA:
A couple was charged in the Pasir Mas magistrates’ court today in connection with the robbery of jewellery worth RM5.76 million at a pawnshop last week.

Bernama reported that Wee Chin Ooi, 49, and Wee Fei Fang, 47, pleaded not guilty to their charges, which were read out separately before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

Chin Ooi is charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same law, with committing robbery armed with a knife at Kedai Pajak Gadai Aik Lee Jaya Sdn Bhd at about 1pm on Oct 21.

He faces a jail sentence of up to 14 years and whipping upon conviction.

Fei Fang is charged with abetting Chin Ooi in committing the robbery at the same location, time and date.

The court set Nov 6 for mention and submission of documents.

The couple was represented by lawyer MK Maalinn, while the prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan.
