KUALA LUMPUR:
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says 112 rape cases were reported in schools nationwide from 2022 till September 2025.

He said 27 cases were reported in 2022, 22 in 2023, 29 in 2024 and 34 cases up to September this year.

Saifuddin said most of the suspects and victims were students, with many incidents occurring on school grounds or near school grounds.

He also said 687 bullying cases were recorded in schools from 2022 till June this year, comprising 205 cases in 2022, 186 in 2023, 191 in 2024 and 105 cases in the first half of 2025.

Saifuddin said a further 87 cases were logged in August and September this year under the new Penal Code provision that makes bullying a criminal offence.

“We take these incidents seriously,” he told the Dewan Rakyat, adding that every report involving students was treated with urgency and sensitivity.

Saifuddin said the RM8 million allocated to the education ministry to install new CCTV cameras would help deter such crimes.

He also welcomed the idea by an MP to feed CCTV footage directly to the police to allow for real-time screening by the police.

“I have also ordered for more visits to schools to increase confidence among parents and teachers, and also to ensure safety,” he said.
