PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission says it is ready to investigate any allegations of corruption or misappropriation involving KLIA Terminal 1’s aerotrain project if a report is lodged.

Speaking to reporters after the 21st Asean Parties Against Corruption Principals Meeting here today, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said no investigation papers have been opened regarding the project.

“So far, we have not received any complaints or information regarding this,” Berita Harian reported him as saying.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook yesterday ordered the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) to open an investigation paper into Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd after yet another disruption to the aerotrain service at KLIA Terminal 1.

Loke acknowledged that MAHB had said it needed some time to get used to the service’s new system, which commenced operations on July 1.

However, he said the service had been running for several months now and disruptions could no longer be tolerated.

MAHB said the aerotrain service suffered a disruption yesterday due to an issue with its power system. It faced a similar disruption on Oct 15.

On Oct 13, deputy transport minister Hasbi Habibollah said 19 minor incidents involving the aerotrain were recorded between July 2 and Sept 30.

Most of them involved the signalling system, including cases where passengers attempted to manually force open the train doors.

He said the provider of the aerotrain system may face a fine of up to RM190,000 for every month it fails to ensure the trains operate at the optimum level.

He said the original equipment manufacturer was fully responsible for ensuring that the aerotrain operates at maximum efficiency – 100% for a single train and 99.5% when two trains are running simultaneously.
