PAS MP given early lunch break after tiff with ‘crazy’ DAP man

A comment that all religions discourage alcohol consumption sparks bickering between two MPs across the aisle.

The exchange escalated when Kampar MP Chong Zhemin asked if Parit Buntar MP Misbahul Munir Masduki was drunk, prompting the PAS man to shoot back: ‘I’m not drunk, you’re the crazy one.’
KUALA LUMPUR:
A brief argument broke out in the Dewan Rakyat today after Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN-Parit Buntar) claimed alcohol consumption was a major health concern and also discouraged by all religions.

Interjecting during Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden’s (PN-Alor Setar) debate on the budget, Misbahul said that Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism and Christianity also did not encourage drinking.

This drew an immediate protest from Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar), who said it was “wrong and misleading” to claim that Christianity forbids alcohol consumption.

Misbahul replied that he had only said it was discouraged rather than forbidden, and refused to retract his statement despite Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi), who sat as speaker, advising against commenting on other religions.

The exchange escalated when Chong asked if Misbahul was drunk, prompting the PAS MP to shoot back: “I’m not drunk, you’re the crazy one.”

Syahredzan then muted their microphones and ordered both MPs to withdraw their remarks.

After a brief back and forth, Chong agreed to retract his comment but Misbahul refused to withdraw his statements, including the “crazy” label aimed at the DAP man.

Syahredzan directed Misbahul to step out of the Dewan Rakyat and return after the lunch break, though it was already close to 1pm at the time, which is when the house has a recess.
