The office of the Federal Court’s chief registrar said Muniandy took his oath of office at the Palace of Justice today.
He was among eight High Court judges whom sources told FMT would be elevated to the Court of Appeal.
Born in Negeri Sembilan on Oct 12, 1961, Muniandy read law at Universiti Malaya before joining the legal service in 1984 as a federal counsel under the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ prosecution division.
He served as a senior magistrate with the Raub and Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ courts from 1988 to 1990.
He rejoined the AGC and served in various posts before being appointed a judicial commissioner in 2019. He was promoted to High Court judge in 2022.
Under the Federal Constitution, judicial appointments are made by the king, on the advice of the prime minister and in consultation with the Conference of Rulers.
Names of potential candidates are submitted to the prime minister by the nine-member Judicial Appointments Commission, chaired by the chief justice of Malaysia.
