PETALING JAYA:
Eight men have been arrested in Besut, Terengganu, to assist in an investigation into an alleged riot involving a businessman with a Datuk title.

Besut police chief Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the suspects, aged 21 to 40, were arrested at the district police headquarters after providing their statements last night, Harian Metro reported.

Azamuddin said they have been remanded from today to assist in an investigation for rioting and committing mischief.

He said a 36-year-old businessman, who is also the alleged victim, filed a police report over the incident that happened at about 1.30am yesterday.

The complainant said he went to the house of one of the suspects, who is a Datuk in Jertih to discuss a misunderstanding that had occurred at about 11pm on Thursday.

Upon arriving at the house, the complainant got out of his car and began livestreaming on his phone.

The suspect then called him to enter the house, but he refused.

Azamuddin said chaos ensued when a struggle broke out between the complainant and members of the suspect’s family.

He said the complainant’s phone was taken by one of the family members.

“The complainant received a bruise on the back of his head, injured both his elbows, his right finger and his back when he fell during the commotion,” he said in a statement.

The complainant’s car was also allegedly damaged.
