This comes after Wan Fayhsal’s claim that last year’s Bersatu elections were “dirty”, alleging vote cancellations and other tactics that he said “negated the rights of members”.
In a statement today, the division’s youth chief, Nadhir Zuhair Nozi, said the remarks were “malicious” and clearly aimed at tarnishing the party’s image.
He said the party’s elections were not dirty but were being made to appear so by “a handful of leaders like Wan Fayhsal, who claim to be clean, pure and clever behind their rhetoric”.
Nadhir also said Wan Fayhsal’s membership was suspended for allegedly spreading false accusations about money politics in the party elections.
“In truth, it was a lie. That is why he avoided appearing before the disciplinary board four times, giving all sorts of petty excuses.”
He also claimed that Wan Fayhsal faces another allegation of falsifying the signatures of branch chiefs in the Machang division.
“Embarrassed by the mere 26 votes he obtained in the contest for the Machang division chief post, he went so far as to forge signatures without the knowledge of the branch chiefs. The disciplinary board must expedite this case as it clearly involves deceit, wrongdoing and crime,” he alleged.
Nadhir accused the Machang MP of now “playing the victim” by issuing statements that smeared the party’s image.
“Clearly, he is the real ‘Trojan horse’ who is working with the enemy,” he said, urging members to stay united and reject any leader sowing discord in the party.
Yesterday, the suspended Bersatu Supreme Council member claimed there was “silap mata” (sleight of hand) in how votes were counted during the youth wing election.
He alleged the election committee voided several results, flipping the outcome in favour of Hilman Idham, whom he said was aligned with party secretary-general Azmin Ali, causing the other candidate, Akmal Zahin, to be disadvantaged.
In October last year, Bersatu’s election committee denied allegations of interference in Hilman’s victory, saying all objections had been reviewed before a unanimous decision was reached.
