JOHOR BAHRU:
A Myanmar woman was believed to have been murdered by her boyfriend in an incident at a workers’ hostel in Jalan Austin Heights here yesterday.

Johor Bahru South district police chief Raub Selamat said the 33-year-old victim, who sustained stab and slash wounds, was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend, also a Myanmar national, at about 7.40pm.

He said a 23-year-old foreign woman and a 27-year-old local man were injured while trying to stop the suspect from attacking the victim.

“The suspect was later found dead at the same location with a 24cm knife and is believed to have taken his own life after the incident,” he said in a statement today.

Raub said police were working to identify the suspect as no identification documents were found on him, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

He added that the two injured witnesses were receiving treatment, while post-mortems on both bodies were being carried out at the Sultan Ismail Hospital here.

Raub said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Johor Bahru South district police headquarters (IPD) at 07-2182323.
