Man found drowned in Sungai Melaka

The victim was fully dressed in pants and shirt and believed to be of Indian descent, say police.

The body of a man, whose identity has yet to be determined, was found floating in Sungai Melaka yesterday.

Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the man, who was fully clothed in pants and a shirt, was wearing a string bracelet and is believed to be of Indian descent.

He said the man was floating face down in the river at about 4.45pm.

“Police received a call informing them that an object had been spotted floating in Sungai Melaka, after which a witness contacted Melaka Hospital.

“The victim was lifted into a boat by staff of Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation and the public, and brought to the river bank, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer,” Bernama reported him as saying.

Patit said there were no signs of injuries or elements of foul play.
