PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan will “dance to Barisan Nasional’s beat” with the latter’s decision to independently contest future state and parliamentary elections, says Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim.

He said this reflects Malaysia’s increasingly dynamic political landscape, with alliances and cooperation no longer restricted to pre-election periods.

“Things are not as they were before, where parties had to cooperate before elections. Now, they can cooperate to form governments after contesting against each other in elections.

“This is a positive thing. If Umno and BN decide to move solo, PH will dance to BN’s beat,” Sinar Harian reported him as saying in Johor Bahru today.

Hassan, a noted outspoken member of PKR, said BN should show willingness to give and take, and not place its candidates in all seats, in view of PH’s willingness to respect BN’s decision to go solo.

“I think the BN leadership’s decision, especially at the state level, may be the best thing for them, as their position is currently more difficult than when they ran the country.

“PH must respect their decision. At the same time, there are areas they do not need to contest, in respect of their cooperation at the federal level. There must be some give and take,” he said.

On Oct 12, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said the party will use its logo and move solo in all elections, starting in Sabah, up to the Melaka and Johor state polls and the 16th general election.
