PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia suffered a double blow in the Denmark Open after men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani fell in the opening round to in-form English pair Ben Lane-Sean Vendy in three games.

Hours earlier, Malaysia’s top pair and world No 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also fell in the first round to a new Indonesian combination in straight games.

World No 3 pair Sze Fei-Izzuddin, who have been having a lean spell this year, lost 13-21, 21-13, 14-21 in a match lasting 55 minutes despite making a strong comeback in the second game at Arena Fyn in Odense, Denmark.

The Malaysians had no answer to the superb defence put up by their rivals in the first encounter between the two pairs in an international tournament.

It was the second consecutive knockout in the first round of the Denmark Open for Sze Fei-Izzuddin.

On Sunday, the English pair, who are ranked world No 12, defeated Aaron-Wooi Yik in a three-game final at the Arctic Open.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin reached the finals of the India Open in January, where they won the title. They lost in the Thailand Open final in May, and have suffered several early exits in between.
