Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan said the incident was reported at 10.45am yesterday after a local man alerted police that his 33-year-old Bangladeshi acquaintance had been attacked by his girlfriend in Kampung Lokan, Gelang Patah.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that jealousy was the motive for the assault, Sinar Harian reported.
“The woman learned that the victim had not divorced his wife in Bangladesh despite being in a romantic relationship with her,” he was quoted as saying.
“The victim suffered injuries to his genitals and left hand and was taken to Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Bahru for treatment.”
Kumarasan said police arrested the woman at about 12.15pm on the same day and seized a 29cm knife believed to have been used in the attack.
He said the suspect tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal record.
The suspect has been remanded for five days until Oct 13 to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having valid travel documents.
