Anwar said he also explained the government’s position on Trump’s proposed 20-point Gaza peace plan, and provided updates on developments involving the Global Sumud Flotilla which saw 23 Malaysian volunteers detained by Israeli forces.
“We also touched on policy issues such as the government’s preparations for the budget for 2026,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Asean Conference on Future-Ready Public Service today.
Anwar’s audience with the Conference of Rulers this morning caused the abrupt scrapping of the Prime Minister’s Question Time for today’s parliamentary session.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said Anwar’s two scheduled questions would be deferred to another session.
Last Saturday, foreign minister Mohamad Hasan said Putrajaya welcomed Hamas’s conditional acceptance of the 20-point peace plan, describing it as a starting point towards lasting peace for Palestine and its people.
The plan, among others, aims to make Gaza a demilitarised zone with a transitional governing mechanism directly overseen by the US president through an international body tasked with monitoring its implementation.
It includes the release of all Israeli captives within 72 hours of the plan’s approval, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
The plan also calls for an end to hostilities, the disarmament of all armed groups in Gaza, and Israel’s phased withdrawal from the territory, which will then be administered by a technocratic authority under the supervision of an international body led by the US president.
