2 Chinese national tourists reported missing on Sabah island

Yu Xiaopeng and Fan Qing checked into an island resort on Saturday afternoon but did not check out the following day as scheduled.

PETALING JAYA:
Two Chinese nationals who were holidaying at Mantanani Island in Kota Belud, Sabah, have been missing since Sunday.

Kota Belud police chief Shahrudin Mat Husain said Yu Xiaopeng, 25, and Fan Qing, 28, checked into the Sutera Mantanani Resort on Saturday afternoon but did not check out the following day as scheduled.

The resort’s security team failed to locate the pair, prompting them to file a police report at 7.57pm on Sunday, The Borneo Post reported.

Yu was last seen in a long-sleeved shirt and black trousers while Fan was wearing a short-sleeved top and black shorts.

A search and rescue operation involving multiple security agencies is ongoing, with personnel searching the island and the surrounding waters.
