PETALING JAYA:
Selangor police have launched an internal probe into two officers over alleged misconduct in an investigation into an unlicensed moneylending syndicate.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the investigation was opened after a preliminary inquiry found elements of misconduct in how the officers handled a complainant.

“The complainant’s report was lodged under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act and the main investigation is ongoing.

“However, the initial probe confirmed misconduct by the personnel involved. At my instruction, disciplinary proceedings have begun,” he told a press conference here today.

Shazeli said police would not tolerate any breach of integrity and warned that firm action would be taken if the allegations are proven to be true.

Earlier, a complainant claimed to have been offered a RM500 bribe by a police officer to withdraw a report made against an unlicensed moneylender.

The complainant also alleged being treated unfairly when filing the report.

On a separate matter, Shazeli said 748 people were arrested and drugs worth more than RM4.3 million were seized in an ongoing anti-drug operation across Selangor this year.

The first phase in May, covering Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Serdang, saw 160 arrests and RM35,550 worth of drugs seized.

The second phase resulted in 588 arrests and about RM4.3 million worth of drugs seized.
