Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said a report was received at about 1.20pm, Harian Metro reported.
“Based on initial information, the boy had left his classroom at 12.10pm. He was later found unconscious within the school grounds.
“The boy was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead,” he was quoted as saying.
Alzafny said police will release more information soon.
Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the matter has been handed over to the police to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.
She urged the public not to speculate about the incident and to give the boy’s family space and privacy.
“The ministry expresses our condolences and deep sorrow over this incident. We are providing full support to the family at this difficult time, both emotionally and psychosocially,” she said.
The incident comes just days after a nine-year-old pupil died after falling into an uncovered manhole at a school in Lenggeng, also in Negeri Sembilan.
