The victim said she met the 22-year-old suspect on a social media platform last week. She then met him on Monday, during which time the man allegedly groped her.

He invited the victim to meet again last night before allegedly raping her at a house in Kampung Bakar Kapor, reported Berita Harian.

The girl was brought to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for a medical check-up, after which a police report was lodged.

Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan confirmed that the suspect was arrested in the Kampung Bakar Kapor area at about 1.30am.

He said the man would be brought for a remand hearing later today.

The case is being investigated for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the suspect faces a jail term of between 10 to 30 years and a whipping.
