Education ministry orders probe into death of boy in sewage pit at school

The education ministry has instructed the Negeri Sembilan education department to investigate the death of a nine-year-old pupil who fell into a sewer pit at a school in Lenggeng, Nilai.

Its director-general, Azam Ahmad, said the ministry has reminded all school administrators, district education offices and state education departments to ensure school facilities are safe, Bernama reported.

“The ministry extends its condolences to the family of the pupil.

“This incident is tragic. Strict action will be taken for any non-compliance with the SOPs,” he said.

He said the ministry prioritises the safety and wellbeing of everyone in educational institutions.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the Nilai police headquarters received a report on the incident at 11am today.

He said the boy fell into the pit while a sports meet was taking place at the school.
