Sungai Ramal assemblyman Shafie Ngah posted his unreserved apology on Facebook, admitting that he had been wrong to accuse the DAP man of being a dishonest and irreligious Muslim who supports the communist ideology.
“I admit that my statements were wholly untrue, baseless and without merit. I regret making and publishing them and realise the harm, distress and reputational damage they have caused to Syahredzan.
“I hereby retract my statements unconditionally and promise not to make or publish any more statements that are slanderous or potentially slanderous against Syahredzan,” he said.
Shafie also acknowledged full responsibility for his actions and expressed his commitment to ensuring that he acts in a more prudent and respectful manner.
Separately, Syahredzan said this followed a consent judgment by the Kuala Lumpur High Court where it was agreed that Shafie would apologise and refrain from repeating his claims.
The DAP vice-chairman said Shafie’s apology was also published in two newspapers and the social media platforms of PAS and PN’s Bangi chapters.
“I want to thank my lawyers Daniel Albert, Nicholas Yap and Amanda Yap from Daniel & Wong for their service in this case,” he said in a Facebook post.
Syahredzan filed the suit in August 2023, just before Shafie won the race for the Sungai Ramal seat in the Selangor state election.
