PETALING JAYA:
A cook in Penang was slapped with a RM6,500 fine by the Balik Pulau magistrates’ court after pleading guilty to outraging the modesty of a 20-year-old woman by inviting her to have sex with him.

Amirulhakim Suhaimi, 30, pleaded guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Chia Huey Ting, Kosmo reported.

He faces 10 months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

Amirulhakim was charged with committing the offence at a shop at Commercial Square, Bayan Lepas, at around 9.30am on Sept 19.

The charge under Section 509 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to five years in jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor R Lushani asked for a commensurate sentence, citing the trauma that the incident would have left on the victim.

Lawyer Chew Thiam Hui of the National Legal Aid Foundation sought a lighter sentence, saying Amirulhakim earned just over RM1,000 working as a cook.
