Flood situation in Sabah improves, only 439 left at relief centres

PETALING JAYA:
The number of flood victims at temporary relief centres in Sabah is down to 439, while 17 are still waiting to return home in Sarawak.

The evacuees in Sabah, who are being housed at four relief centres in Papar, Penampang and Membakut, are from 128 families, Bernama reported.

The state disaster management committee said 126 of the evacuees are in Papar, 121 in Penampang, and the rest in Membakut.

It said 53 villages – 24 in Penampang, 20 in Papar and nine in Membakut – are still affected by the floods.

In Sarawak, the state disaster management committee said 17 victims from five families were still being housed at the relief centre at Dewan Suarah Marudi in Miri this morning.

According to the drainage and irrigation department’s Public Info Banjir portal, the river water level at the Long Teru station was still at the danger level of 8.77m, while the level at the Marudi station remained at 4.17m.
