PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a man in connection with an attack on a married couple at a restaurant last week.

Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim told FMT the suspect was arrested in Shah Alam and would be brought before the magistrates’ court this morning to obtain a remand order.

Iqbal said the 49-year-old mechanic, who has no prior criminal record, had just returned from a trip to Thailand.

The altercation at the restaurant last Friday was sparked when a pregnant woman and her husband urged a man to stop smoking and he refused.

After being scolded for a third time, he approached the couple and blew smoke into the woman’s face, setting off a heated exchange.

The man, who saw the woman recording him smoking, also knocked the phone out her hand, leading to a shoving match between him and the victims.

Iqbal previously said the incident was being probed for voluntarily causing hurt and offences under the Minor Offences Act.
