Boy, 12, killed in croc attack while fishing

A witness who saw the boy casting a net later heard a scream, and found that the child had disappeared when he turned towards him.

KUCHING:
A 12-year-old boy is believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in Kampung Empila, Kota Samarahan, about 30km from here today, resulting in the child’s death.

The Sarawak fire and rescue department said the body of Arif Fahmi Aiman Tinggal was found about 10m from where he was last seen.

It was alerted to the incident at 7.53am by a witness who saw the boy casting a net from a boat, before hearing him scream.

“Upon looking towards the direction of the sound, the witness discovered that the boy had disappeared. He immediately went to the location and searched for the boy before contacting the emergency line.

“The deceased victim was found by the fire and rescue team at 9.50am with chest injuries caused by a crocodile bite. The body was handed over to the police for further action,” it said.
