PUTRAJAYA:
The education ministry has ordered the immediate evacuation of the staff quarters near the landslide-hit Teachers’ Training Institute Gaya campus in Sabah to ensure the safety of the occupants.

The ministry said several immediate measures have also been taken, including demolishing the affected buildings to pave the way for new construction.

In a statement, it also said it had rented temporary premises outside the campus so that academic activities could continue without interruption, while work to rebuild the damaged water tank was also being carried out.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which damaged the slope and several blocks that had already been closed and left unoccupied since July on the orders of the Sabah public works department (JKR).

The ministry also expressed its appreciation to Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor for his concern and for visiting the campus today.
