Man held over alleged defamatory video on Zara’s death

Police say the 36-year-old suspect was arrested in Kota Kinabalu yesterday after a video was found to contain defamatory content and revealed the identity of a minor.

KOTA KINABALU:
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of posting a defamatory video on Facebook related to the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun said police received a report from the public on Sept 13 about the video, which went viral, containing suspected defamatory elements and revealing the identity of a minor.

He said it also involved the improper use of network facilities.

Two mobile phones were seized from the suspect, who was arrested at 5.40pm on Sept 16.

The case is being investigated under Sections 203A and 500 of the Penal Code, Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
