In the incident on Friday, a pregnant woman and her husband had admonished the man for smoking after employees at the eatery ignored their pleas to reprimand him.
Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the man ignored the husband’s rebuke and continued puffing away.
However, after the man was berated for a third time, he approached the couple and blew smoke into the pregnant woman’s face, sparking a heated exchange.
The man saw the woman recording him smoking. He went up and knocked the handphone off her hand. This led to a shoving match between the man and the victims.
The man then left the restaurant.
“We are now probing the incident for voluntarily causing hurt and offences under the Minor Offences Act,” Iqbal said in a statement.
He urged those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Rafiah Isa, at 012-3770327.
