The state disaster management committee said cash aid of RM1,000 would be given to the head of each family moved to a relief centre.
A sum of RM10,000 would be given to the families of those who have lost their lives, Bernama reported.
“This assistance is given to Malaysians registered with the social welfare department. The government will also provide food baskets to all those affected,” the committee was quoted as saying.
The state government has obtained approval from the federal government, through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), to channel the financial assistance to those affected.
Additional Bailey bridges and other aid will also be provided.
The local authorities are carrying out monitoring, aid distribution, and logistics coordination to ensure the safety and welfare of all victims, the committee said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million through Nadma to assist flood victims in the state.
He said the amount is in addition to the RM11 million already channelled through the state government for urgent repairs of essential facilities in the affected areas.
The committee said 863 people from 220 families had been evacuated as of this afternoon, compared with 415 from 113 families in the morning. They from 36 villages in Penampang, Beaufort, Membakut and Tawau.
Nine people have been killed in two landslide incidents in Kota Kinabalu and Papar.
In Ipoh, Perak, menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the state government would extend assistance to flood victims in the Muallim district, which was inundated following heavy rain earlier today.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Saarani said the state government would do its best to ease the burden of those affected.
