BUTTERWORTH:
The sessions court here has fixed Nov 5 for further mention of former Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy’s case of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM850,000.

During today’s mention, the prosecution handed over eight more bundles of documents to the defence, making it a total of nine so far, according to Ramasamy’s lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind.

Shamsher said today’s hearing was purely for case management while the court would be updated on the status of document disclosures under the Criminal Procedure Code on Nov 5.

Ramasamy, 76, is standing trial on 17 charges of CBT through the misappropriation of funds from the Penang Hindu Endowments Board between 2019 and 2022.

He has denied any wrongdoing and called the case politically motivated, linking it to his departure from DAP and the formation of his new party, Urimai.

The case is being heard before judge Zulhazmi Abdullah. Lawyer Eng Yuh Pei also appeared for Ramasamy.
