PETALING JAYA:
The Election Commission has rubbished claims that the 17th Sabah election will be held on Nov 4.

In a statement, it said a viral poster claiming that the state assembly would be dissolved on Sept 19 with polling day held on Nov 4 was fake.

“To date, no official announcement has been made by the EC concerning the Sabah legislative assembly’s dissolution, moreover the key dates for the state election.

“The spread of such false information is an irresponsible action that can cause confusion in the community. Legal action can be taken under the Communications and Multimedia Act and other relevant laws,” the EC said.

On Aug 30, Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor hinted that the state assembly may be dissolved in the coming weeks, but stopped short of revealing the exact date.

The Sabah state assembly’s term automatically expires on Nov 11, if not dissolved earlier. An election must be held within 60 days of its dissolution.
