“We are all friends. Of course, there are people who think otherwise or try to create the perception that Hamzah and I are not good friends.
“This is our dream team up here,” he said at a press conference after the party’s general assembly today, referring to the party’s Supreme Council.
Hamzah had been accused in a poison-pen letter of being the “enemy within”. Denying the accusation in his winding-up speech at the general assembly, he said: “It is not someone in the party. It is someone outside.”
He told delegates: “Enough is enough. I want to inform all of you, I am the number one supporter of the president today.”
Last night, Muhyiddin had spoken about moves for a signature campaign against him, during which a commotion occurred when he was heckled.
At a party dinner tonight after the general assembly, Muhyiddin spoke about Bersatu’s growth and highlighted the size of Bersatu’s membership following a recent clean-up of its rolls.
“The secretary-general earlier did not announce how many members we have today but we have just completed the verification process to ensure those in the register are genuine.
“He told me that we now have almost 600,000 members across the country. We have about 5,000 branches and 202 divisions. This is the highest number of divisions compared with other parties,” he said, expressing pride in the party’s growth.
