Chegubard released on police bail after sedition probe

Badrul Hisham Shaharin says a magistrate had rejected a four-day remand application by the police yesterday.

Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, was arrested at 10.25pm on Friday after a TikTok video of his speech went viral.
PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin has been released on police bail after being questioned over alleged sedition during a political ceramah in Bagan Serai, Perak, on Sept 1.

Badrul, better known as Chegubard, shared the update in a Facebook post yesterday, saying he was brought before a magistrate after police applied for a four-day remand.

He said his lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, opposed the request.

“The magistrate rejected the remand application around 11am, and I was released on police bail after my statement was recorded,” he said.

Badrul was arrested at 10.25pm on Friday after police detected a Sept 4 social media posting on TikTok, which had gone viral, showing Badrul delivering the speech.

In the clip, Badrul was heard making remarks regarding the Malay rulers and alleged attempts by certain quarters to erode respect for the monarchy.

Investigations into the viral video are being conducted by Bukit Aman CID’s classified crimes investigation unit under provisions relating to seditious statements, spreading statements likely to cause public alarm, and improper use of network services.
