GEORGE TOWN:
Five policemen, including a senior officer, have been arrested by the Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly soliciting and accepting RM9,000 in bribes to not take action over a stolen motorcycle case.

According to a source, the men, aged between their 20s and 40s, were detained between 2pm and 5pm today while giving their statements to MACC here.

“A preliminary investigation indicated that all the suspects colluded during an operation in Seberang Perai last Friday.

“One of the suspects is believed to have requested and received cash from a motorcycle workshop owner linked to the operation,” the source said.

Penang MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting or accepting gratification.

He said all five suspects were released on MACC bond.
