Rafizi said while the elected representatives from PAS were generally decent individuals, it was insufficient in terms of resolving the nation’s woes.

“My problem with PAS isn’t about their intentions. I do not think they are malicious. They just want to be in government,” he said in the latest episode of his podcast, Yang Berhenti Menteri.

The Pandan MP and former economy minister said many had asked why he did not support PAS on grounds that its members were “good people”.

“But being a good person may not necessarily resolve the country’s problems,” he said, adding that competence was required in governance.

In May, Rafizi revealed that he had received several messages inviting him to join other political parties, including PAS. He turned these offers down, saying he was loyal to PKR.

Sinar Harian also reported him as saying that PAS supporters had followed his speeches closely when the Islamic party was part of Pakatan Rakyat along with PKR.

He said his exposés earned him support among PAS voters.
