Balik Pulau magistrate Zaireen Zainudin granted the remand application this morning, Kosmo reported.
The suspect was represented by lawyers Muhaimin Hashim and Yazid Khairul Azman at the remand proceedings.
Yesterday, police said the incident was believed to have been triggered by an argument over a bank loan.
Barat Daya police chief Sazalee Adam said an initial investigation found that the husband had taken the loan to invest in stocks and for instalment payments for e-commerce purchases.
On Aug 27, the suspect allegedly slashed his 28-year-old wife in the neck before doing the same to himself. He also allegedly slashed himself on the wrist, leaving him with severe injuries.
Police earlier said the husband and wife, both teachers at different schools in the district, had no criminal record or history of mental health issues.
Sazalee said the wife was discharged from Penang Hospital on Thursday while her husband had been warded for a psychiatric evaluation.
