PETALING JAYA:
A man released from prison six months ago was arrested last week for attempting to rob a restaurant in Kangar, Perlis.

Kangar police chief Yusharifuddin Yusop said in the 12.07pm incident last Saturday, the 35-year-old construction worker had approached a woman working at the eatery’s main counter.

“The suspect pretended to order a RM12 set of Korean fried chicken before moving behind the counter and pointing a folding knife at the woman.

“He threatened to stab her if she did not give him the money.”

The woman panicked and screamed for help, forcing the man to flee on his motorcycle without taking any money, Berita Harian reported him as saying today.

The woman was uninjured.

Yusharifuddin said a team from the Kangar criminal investigation department arrested the suspect at 4.45pm the same day.

“Checks found that the suspect has 20 previous convictions for criminal offences, including for narcotics,” he said.

Yusharifuddin said the suspect has been remanded for investigations into this and other cases.
