PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Hajiji Noor and Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Putrajaya today, as a clash between the two coalitions looms ahead of the Sabah election.

Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan chairman, described the meeting as “harmonious and full of camaraderie”.

“This meeting reflects political maturity and a commitment to strengthening cooperation for the stability of the nation, particularly in the context of federal and Sabah state government relations,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.

“I believe political stability is a crucial foundation for advancing development agendas and the well-being of the people.”

Anwar said close cooperation between state and federal leaders was important to ensure the people’s aspirations are “realised in a comprehensive and inclusive manner”.

“I hope this spirit of consensus will continue to serve as a foundation for stronger national unity, and for a progressive, just and prosperous future for all Malaysians,” he said.

PH is in separate pacts with GRS and BN for the Sabah election, as the two coalitions have refused to work together despite Anwar’s urging.

Sabah BN previously said any form of cooperation with GRS would only be considered after the outcome of the state polls, which must be held by December.

PH is an ally of GRS in the state government, while BN sits with Warisan in the opposition.
