The ruckus began when Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) criticised a speech by Abdul Hadi Awang (PN-Marang) on the 13th Malaysia Plan, saying that it lacked policy points.

He singled out a remark in which Hadi had blamed Pakatan Harapan, DAP and other parties for Kuala Lumpur’s problems, calling it irrelevant to the document.

Several PAS MPs, including Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) and Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang), jeered in response.

RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) tried to raise a point of order but was drowned out by shouts and insults aimed at his party, DAP. One of the opposition MPs was heard saying “Wherever DAP is in administration, there are problems.”

Rayer subsequently asked if they would accept him calling PAS “Parti Ajaran Sesat”, prompting further uproar.

Suhaizan Kayat (PH-Pulai), who was standing in to chair proceedings, struggled to restore order before Johari rushed in from his chambers and issued the MPs a sharp rebuke.

“There are schoolchildren here before us. From my chamber, I could hear insults and foul words. If we want this nation to progress, leaders must progress. Not like this,” Johari said.

As Johari spoke, some opposition MPs staged a walkout, further drawing his ire.

He reminded both sides, each with experience in government, to respect senior leaders and maintain civility during debates.

Rayer later said that two PAS MPs had asked him to “come out for a fight” before exiting the Dewan Rakyat.

Johari said he would review the Hansard and surveillance cameras near the exit before making a ruling on the ruckus tomorrow.
