KUALA LUMPUR:
The government will upgrade its public transport and aviation services under the latest five-year development plan, with hundreds of new vehicles and aircraft to be added across the country, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat, he said the government would introduce 300 on-demand vans and 1,200 buses in major cities to make public transport more reliable and accessible for commuters.

“This is part of our efforts to improve first- and last-mile connectivity, so that people can get to and from train stations more easily. The aim is to make daily travel smoother for all,” he said.

Anwar said the plan also includes the addition of 217 new passenger train sets to increase service frequency.

He said this would “ensure that the rakyat enjoy better transport options in their daily lives”.

In the aviation sector, Anwar said local airlines would buy 178 new aircraft over the next few years.

“We are also upgrading airport infrastructure to handle growing passenger and cargo traffic.”

Anwar said these investments in land and air transport were part of the government’s push to modernise infrastructure and support inclusive growth under the 13MP.

“We are building a country that is more connected, more competitive, and more prepared for the future,” he said.
