PETALING JAYA:
An unemployed man died after he was allegedly beaten by a group of people for committing a lewd act at a supermarket car park in Jasin, Melaka, last night.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 51-year-old man died from severe injuries to his body, Bernama reported.

“The victim is believed to have committed the indecent act at about 7.30pm before he was chased and beaten by several individuals.

“He tried to flee, including jumping into a river. However, he was caught about 200m from the scene and assaulted again,” Dzulkhairi told reporters after an event at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka in Durian Tunggal today.

Seven men, including a foreigner, have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.

He said the victim had a record under Section 377D of the Penal Code for committing public indecency in 2003 and again in 2024.
