24 houses destroyed by fire in Tuaran

The district disaster management committee secretariat says 35 families were affected, with 114 people relocated to a temporary relief centre.

TUARAN:
Twenty-four houses and a vehicle were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Mengkabong here yesterday.

Tuaran fire and rescue station chief Nor Amit said there were no reports of injuries.

“The fire station received a distress call at 3.34pm, and 24 firefighters, including those from the Kota Kinabalu and Putatan fire and rescue stations, were despatched to the scene.

“The team used water from fire rescue tenders and water tankers to put out the fire. They ended the operation at 10.38pm. The cause of the fire and losses are still under investigation,” he said in a statement today.

The Tuaran district disaster management committee secretariat said 114 victims from 35 families were affected by the fire.

“A temporary relief centre was opened at Dewan Seri Sulaman here at 7pm. The civil defence force is still collecting information on the victims,” it said statement.
