Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said his department received an emergency call from the public at 11.10am.
“Personnel from the Batu 9 Cheras police station went to the location and found a man lying injured and unconscious,” Bernama reported him as saying.
A medical team that arrived shortly afterwards confirmed the man had died, believed to have been beaten by members of the public.
Naazron said police arrested eight men, aged between 22 and 72, in the evening to assist in the investigation.
They have been remanded for six days from July 23.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides for the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and no less than 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.
