Stallholder pleads not guilty to brandishing parang against enforcement, police officers

KUALA LUMPUR:
A stallholder pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today to using criminal force against enforcement and police officers.

Izat Saini @ Zaini, 43, was charged with swinging a machete at the officers during an enforcement operation at Simpang 3, Jalan 4/76b in Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, at 11.17am on Tuesday.

He is accused of attempting to intimidate civil servants from carrying out their lawful orders.

The charge is framed under Section 353 of the Penal Code, which provides for a fine and up to two years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nurul Farhanah Arul Hisham, while Izat was represented by lawyer Fadli Sutris.

Magistrate Amira Abd Aziz allowed bail of RM2,500.

The court set Sept 2 for remention of the case.
