Police report lodged on alleged leak of JAC meeting minutes, says Fahmi

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil says the authenticity of the document has yet to be verified and warns against sharing it online.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said minutes of the Judicial Appointments Commission’s meetings are classified documents which fall under the Official Secrets Act.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A police report has been lodged on the alleged leak of minutes of a recent Judicial Appointments Commission meeting after it went viral on social media, says government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.

Speaking to reporters at an event here, he urged the public, especially the media, to be cautious about sharing the document.

“I been informed that a police report has been lodged. I cannot confirm whether the document that is being circulated is authentic or not.

“If it is indeed authentic, it is a classified document which falls under the Official Secrets Act. So we must exercise caution,” he said.

Fahmi, who is the communications minister, was speaking to the media after launching an AI festival at the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute at Angkasapuri here today.

He said that while the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has the authority to ask for the alleged leaked minutes to be removed from social media platforms, such removal is subject to the platforms’ assessment of whether the content violates their policies.

Yesterday, a document allegedly containing excerpts from a JAC meeting held in May was “leaked” and went viral on social media, raising concerns from various parties.

Among those who expressed concern was Public Accounts Committee chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who said she was shocked about the document being leaked on social media.
