A teenager has been sentenced to five years in jail and two strokes of the rotan by the Muar sessions court for sexually assaulting his younger sister earlier this month.

Judge Sayani Nor meted out the sentence on the youth after he pleaded guilty to the charge, Harian Metro reported.

He was accused of committing physical sexual assault on his 14-year-old sister at a house in Batu Pahat at around 10am on July 4.

The offence, framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a whipping, upon conviction.

Sayani also ordered for him to be placed under police supervision for a year after completing his jail sentence.

According to the case facts, the sexual assault was only uncovered after the victim’s mother brought her to hospital to be treated for a bruise on her neck.

After checking the victim, the hospital lodged a police report on suspicion that she had been sexually assaulted.
