Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman said the victim lodged a report on July 4 alleging that the suspect had molested her after sprinkling water on her face and body during a ritual.
In a statement, he said the suspect, a foreigner, was acting as a stand-in priest as the temple’s regular priest was overseas at the time.
The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for criminal force with intent to outrage one’s modesty, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping or any of the two punishments, if convicted.
Norhizam also urged the public not to incite racial or religious tensions over the case.
